Brain Haw: “Beautiful horses, pity about the riders!” Mounted police ride on to Parliament Square Gardens to appraise the unexpected situation of an unusual gathering of arty people at this time. Recent government law has banned demonstrations within this exclusion zone without permission from the police, under the ‘Serious’ Organised Crime and Police Act 2005, SOCPA. However it transpires that this group of people, who are assembling, are invited guests going onto the Private View at the nearby art gallery Tate Britain to an exhibition by award winning Mark Wallinger “State Britain”. The exhibition consists of a diligent reconstruction of Brian Haw’s peace protest displays that used to be where these people are standing; they were recently confiscated by the Metropolitan police.
