Mal Evans approached John Lennon who was with a TV crew on the side of the large film studio, this was between takes of Lennon and Yoko Ono being interviewed by CBC reporter Hugh Curry. You could sense that he was discreetly checking that John was all alright. Mal had many roles for the Beatles one was minder. John was very friendly towards Mal and it was clear that he was just fine. Mal Evans (Malcolm Frederick Evans 1935 - 1976) Beatles personal assistant on the set of the Beatles "Let It Be" filming and recording rehearsals at Twickenham Film Studios. Mal Evans the Beatles roadie, road manager, assistant and friend, starting from the early days of the Beatles when the group were performing at Liverpool’s Cavern Club, from 1963 until the group broke up to 1970 and remained an employee of Apple Records the Beatles label, until 1974. Mal Evans appeared in the Beatles films: "Let it Be"; "Help"; &, "Magical Mystery Tour". Malcolm Evans also made it onto a number of Beatles recordings, and made other contributions. Evans became briefly an executive at the Beatles company, Apple Corps Ltd. Tragically just over six years later than this photograph was taken Evans was shot and killed by the Los Angeles police in 1976 in a tragic complex incident. Mal Evans wrote diaries and notes during his extensive period working with the Beatles, and at the time of his death was completing a memoir, a book titled “Living the Beatles Legend” unpublished in their entirety, these manuscripts were lost for a period.
