Tow horse
Wall painting showing a horse towing a canal boat, in silhouette style illustration, on the inside wall of a canal bridge. The canal tow horse, is portrayed drawing (pulling) a boat by rope from the towpath as he walks along. This method goes back to Roman times. A horse can pull about fifty times the cargo from a boat than from a cart. It played an important part in the Industrial Revolution in this canal.
