Maison Bertaux Tea Coffee Patisserie Française: Creating Daily on the Premises Est.1871 Première Class. Going to Maison Bertaux saves you the time of getting your passport out and going to France (nice as that is to do) because this is a French Patisserie in Soho. The cafe is a bit of a favourite with discerning people working in the area including some animation cartoonists types. Maison Bertaux in Soho, is the oldest patisserie in London, and hasn't fallen into turning into a franchise, so it’s one of a kind. A Parisian, communard, Monsieur Bertaux opened the café’s doors in 1871 in what was very much a French area in London then. In 1901 it was bought by Monsieur Vignaud. Now the current owners are sisters Michelle and Tania Wade.
