Dona Paula statue, created in 1969 by Dutch sculptor, Baroness Yrse Von Leistner. It has been questioned who the sculpture actually is intended to represent. However it is locally known as Dona Paula who is a historical person Paula Amaral Antonio de Souto Maior, who arrived with her family in Goa 1644 from Portugal. Dona Paula a wealthy noble lady which the village was renamed after due to her charity work. However Dona Paula has romantic stories attached, though they may have been challenged for historic truth by some, but nevertheless persist. Dona Paulo falls in love with a fisherman who is regarded by her family as beneath her social station, the various stories have unhappy outcomes. Dona Paula, Goa, India, picture taken November 1964
