NHS Consultants' Association banner quotes Aneurin Bevan MP on the NHS "It will last as long as there are folk left with the faith to fight for it". Banner held at NHS Campaign to keep the National Health Service in public hands, outside the House of Lords on the day of a debate in which the Lords vote to accept Governments privatisation regulations; a defeat for the campaigners at this stage. Aneurin Bevan (1897 – 1960) the visionary Welsh Member of Parliament who helped create the National Health Service NHS 65-years ago has also said in his book, In Place of Fear, p100: "no society can legitimately call itself civilised if a sick person is denied medical aid because of lack of means”.
