The campaigners are supporting Maria Alyokhina, a member of the punk group Pussy Riot who is serving a two year sentence for performing a song considered to be directed against sensitive President Vladimir Putin, at a service in Moscow's Russian Orthodox cathedral. The Russian court has declined to take into consideration the mother's child's wellbeing and alter her jail conditions, a sentence widely regarded as in any event as being out of proportion.
